February, 2021 # You’re reading the tenth Duet monthly update. During the past month our team setup has changed slightly and we’re now looking to expand our in-house design systems team. It’s been a while since our last monthly update. Lots of things have changed since then as we’ve focused on improving the contributor experience, internal developer documentation and optimizing the technical architecture of Duet Design System. We also have minor changes in the Duet team: Viljami, Duet’s Lead Architect, has taken on a new major role elsewhere, but continues contributing to Duet one day a week on Mondays. Meanwhile, Nick has swapped the position with Viljami and taken on a more full-time role on leading the development efforts and support. With these changes in mind, we’re also looking for a new Frontend Developer to join our in-house design systems team and gradually take on the technical and administrative responsibilities of Duet: Frontend Developer, Design Systems # Strong understanding of semantic HTML and CSS. Previous experience working with multi-vendor engineering teams. Understanding of the approaches to the creation, evolution and distribution of design systems and/or living style guides. Understanding of web accessibility standards and testing techniques. Strong JavaScript skills. Experience with modern JavaScript libraries and tooling, and debugging JavaScript issues. Experience building components with technologies like React.js, Vue.js, Custom Elements, or other. Experience writing maintainable and scalable CSS. Experience in writing simple and clear documentation. Experience building developer tools for the web. Strong sense of ownership. You take responsibility for the success of the engineering teams. Eagerness to learn new technologies. Bonus points for knowledge about Web Components and Shadow DOM. Bonus points for experience working with Stencil.js. December, 2019 # You’re reading the fourth Duet Design System monthly update. In this update we’ll share statistics and feedback we’ve received regarding Duet’s public launch. Last month marked a major milestone for us as we launched Duet publicly. A little under a month has gone by, and we’ve seen more than 12.000 unique visitors from all over the globe. Most of the visitors are coming from United States, Finland, and the UK, but in total we’re seeing traffic from 72 different countries. A simplified overview of the past three+ weeks’ statistics looks like this: 200.000 page views 12.000 unique visitors 72 countries represented 52.000 goal completions 100+ websites and blogs sharing Duet 1 million files served via our CDN While a lot of the traffic has been coming from social media, Duet has also been shared on these websites, publications, and newsletters: Design Systems News: Issue 94 CSS Tricks: The future is bright because the future is static Design Principles: Duet’s Principles Web Designer News: The most upvoted post of the day Web Designer Depot: Popular design news of the week Hey Designer: November 11th newsletter UX Design Weekly: Issue 12 Sidebar: November 12th Evernote: Design UXPin: Adele InVision: Muzli The conversation has been fairly active on Twitter too. I personally tweeted this on November 6th and it ended up being the single biggest source of traffic for our documentation (thanks to all the retweets, people): Extremely happy to tell that we’ve finally made Duet Design System’s docs public. Features I’m personally proud about:— Can be used with any JS framework— Supports WCAG 2.1— Comes in two themes— Minimal network footprint— Uses Web Componentshttps://t.co/v9PET3G8BS— Viljami Salminen (@viljamis) November 6, 2019 Zach Leatherman, who created the tool called Eleventy that our documentation also uses, commented: I’ve been waiting eagerly for this launch—it really feels like a new gold standard for long-term framework independent design systems.“can be also used *without* any JS framework.” 🎉Amazing work @viljamis!https://t.co/PBHpli81cR— Zach Leatherman (@zachleat) 6. marraskuuta 2019 Jad Limcaco, who’s working at Apple commented: I really like how they simplified it so it can be used for prototyping really easily. November, 2019 # You’re reading the third Duet Design System monthly update. This month marks a major milestone for us as we’re launching our new design system publicly. After ten months of hard work, we’re extremely happy to announce that we’ve removed the authentication and made the documentation public. This change will make sharing and collaboration between different teams and third party vendors much easier. This is also a chance for us to be more transparent towards our users and share the work-in-progress. We’re also excited to see continuous rise in the adoption rate of Duet inside LocalTapiola and Turva. We follow this with a Node.js based tool that we’ve built. The tool automatically measures Duet’s adoption and utilization levels across our product portfolio, and helps us understand where and how the system is being utilized and how it affects the work of different teams. At the time of writing, thirteen product teams utilize Duet directly in their app. Four out of those thirteen teams already have most of their frontend UI using Duet’s packages instead of custom built solutions. This quick adoption rate has somewhat affected our pace developing new features as we’ve had to provide a lot more support to our users. This is a very positive problem to have though! Remember, if you have any questions or problems, don’t hesitate to contact us directly. We’ve also created a comprehensive FAQ page that should answer some of your questions as well. The above screenshot reveals a tiny portion of our statistics tool. This graph shows the total installations of our core packages. This is probably the least important information in the whole tool, but fun statistic to have nevertheless. New this month # In this section we’ll highlight every month new features and progress from Duet Design System. This month’s highlights include: New brand typeface # We’ve been working on a new interface and brand typeface since early 2019 together with type designer Kostas Bartsokas. The typeface, called LahiTapiola Sans, is now ready and downloadable from typography page. Get the typeface Design principles # Design principles form the foundation of Duet. They guide our team when working on different parts of the system and help us do better and more informed decisions. This means you now get the ability to use for example ngmodel on inputs and other form fields. October, 2019 # You’re reading the second Duet Design System monthly update. This update focuses on accessibility and performance updates that we’ve been working on. During the past month we’ve focused on getting more components ready for production usage together with some big accessibility and performance improvements. At the time of writing, we now have 25 production ready components together with 5 example templates you can use. Making all these new features accessible has become an important part of our workflow. While the new accessibility law requires us to do so, the more important part is that it allows us to improve the experience for everyone who uses our products. To achieve this, we’ve created an accessibility checklist that helps us remember to tick all the necessary boxes. We’ve been also working on optimizing Duet’s packages for better performance. All packages now weigh around 90 KB combined which is pretty good, considering that this includes static assets as well. Current network footprints for different parts look like this: Web Components Runtime: 1.3 KB gzipped Design Tokens: 1.5 KB gzipped CSS Framework: 3 KB gzipped Fonts CSS: 300 bytes gzipped WOFF2 fonts: 46.6 KB All 302 icons combined: 43.9 KB New this month # In this section we’ll highlight every month new features and progress from Duet Design System. This month’s highlights include: Visual Studio Code extension # Visual Studio Code is an editor optimized for building modern web apps. To ease up the usage, we’ve created an extension that does autocompletion for Duet’s components and component properties. Get the extension Accessibility checklist # Accessibility checklist is a tool created and used by Duet’s core team when developing new features. It helps us improve the experience for everyone who uses our products and can be useful for other teams as well. View checklist TextText CSS Framework # Duet’s CSS Framework includes a wide range of shorthand utility classes to modify an element’s appearance in your own application. It’s also an useful companion to include on a page when using our components. For an up-to-date list on progress and what’s under work, view component statuses. Our next priority is to support designers and developers who start utilizing these new parts. If you have any questions, please view support page and reach out. Finally, we’re also working on an internal tool that will allow us to measure Duet’s adoption and usage. This will help us understand where and how Duet is being used and how it affects the workflows of other teams. September, 2019 # You’re reading the very first Duet Design System monthly update. As this is the first of its kind, we’ll do a short recap on what has been accomplished so far. Where we’re now # We started working on Duet earlier this year in the form of user research and interviews. This was done to recognize organizational challenges and to create a solid plan for the work to follow. The challenges recognized were divided into different categories and based on them, the goals for the system became: Improved work efficiency for designers and developers Improved user interface consistency and quality Improved communication between teams and people Shared documentation platform Since those early days we’ve made a lot of progress on all these fronts. We now have a living and breathing system that’s divided into six front-end packages, a documentation platform, and a Sketch toolkit that the designers use. We’ve also created many smaller utility tools such as Duet Zeplin extension. This extension shows Duet’s Design Tokens instead of hard coded values in the Zeplin app. The packages and tools created can be used together or separately depending on your team’s individual needs. This makes it easier to start adopting parts of the design system into existing applications. While there’s a lot more work to do, especially on the communication part, we’re excited about the fact that we’re quite a bit ahead of our original schedule. That gives us some headway to improve the communication via these monthly updates and weekly design system “office hours” where you can just show up with your design system questions and support requests (every Thursday, 14:00-16:00 at PK1 Elotalo lobby, 3rd floor). If you have any questions right now, don’t hesitate to contact us directly. We’ve also created a comprehensive FAQ page that should answer some of your questions as well. New this month # In this section we’ll highlight every month new features and progress from Duet Design System. This month’s highlights include: Duet Zeplin extension # Zeplin is a tool we use to handoff designs with accurate specs, assets and code snippets to developers. To ease up the usage and make it more efficient for developers, we’ve created an extension that shows Duet’s Design Tokens in Zeplin. Get the extension Icon search # To make it easier to find a specific icon (or many!), we’ve created a better user interface for searching Duet’s icons. Each of the icons is now also tagged with a bunch of keywords for easier discoverability. Try the search New components # We’re working hard on your component requests. That’s finally paying off as we’re now seeing the first actual components being rolled out to production applications. See Navigation or Hero Area for examples of such components. Browse components On the roadmap next # Getting more components ready for production usage is our first priority at the moment. For an up-to-date list on progress and what’s under work, view component statuses. Our next priority is to support designers and developers who start utilizing these new parts. If you have any questions, please view support page and reach out. Finally, we’re working on the documentation and trying to make sure it covers most of the things you might ask. Recently, we updated the Getting Started guidelines for both developers and designers. If you feel like something’s missing, please let us know. Never use maximum-scale='1.0'
a11yproject.com · 2013-01-14
Using the viewport meta tag the wrong way can prevent people with low vision concerns from accessing your website or web app. About the maximum-scale attribute By setting maximum-scale=1.0, you are disabling the functionality to use pinch zoom on certain mobile devices, forcing people to view your page a certain way. The bad way The good way Avoiding maximum-scale="1.0" allows your site to meet users' needs and provide a better experience. In iOS 10, Apple changed its handling of user-scalable, min-scale, and max-scale declarations. Their changes removed the effect on pinch-zooming, making it possible to pinch-zoom regardless of the meta element's suggestions. However, other effects of the declarations remain, like their effect on whether the browser automatically zooms into focused input elements. And other mobile browsers, including Chrome on Android, still forbid user zooming when a maximum-scale="1.0" rule is present. About the user-scalable attribute The user-scalable attribute can also cause problems for people who use the built-in zoom functionality of their web browser. The attribute is set as user-scalable="yes" by default, which means that people are able to control the zoom setting for the page they're visiting. Changing it to user-scalable="no" would prevent zoom settings from working on both mobile and desktop devices. Avoid setting user-scalable to no to assure better accessibility of your site. Either leave it as default by not referencing the user-scalable attribute, or set it to yes.

8月13日小更新随笔
blog.goso.top · 2026-08-12
